Sabres Alumni Scholarship Program...
Thank you for your interest in the Buffalo Sabres Alumni Scholarship Program. If you are interested in applying for our scholarship, please read through this page carefully. - ELIGIBILITY:
Contest open to legal residents of Western New York (as within the 716 and 585 area codes) and Southern Ontario (as within 905 area code) who are, or will be, high school seniors graduating in the spring of current year who plan to, and do, enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited four-year college or university, in the United States or Canada for the fall term of the next school year. Void where prohibited.
- HOW TO ENTER:
Complete the Buffalo Sabres Alumni Scholarship Program Student Application Form available in by clicking on the PDF link above and at various locations throughout Western New York, Southern Ontario or from the Buffalo Sabres, HSBC Arena, One Seymour H. Knox III Plaza, Buffalo, New York 14203. All sections of the application must be completed for applicant to be eligible. A current official transcript of the applicant's grades, certified by the high school must accompany the application.

Applications must be postmarked by JULY 1ST of each year. Sponsor not responsible for lost, late, misdirected, mutilated, incomplete, illegible applications or postage-due mail. All applications including essays become the property of the Sponsor and will not be returned or acknowledged.
By submitting an application, applicant agrees to provide other information and documentation as may be reasonable requested by the judges or sponsor.
- JUDGING:
The applicants will be judged on the following criteria:
- Commitment to school and community service activities.
- The applicant's list of school and leadership awards and honors.
- Appraisal form completed by the school or community advisor, coordinator, supervisor or leader.
- The applicant's short essay on one school or community service experience including a description of how the experience benefited others and what happened in your life or the life of your family as a result of this activity. Essay may be up to, but not more than, one 8 1/2" x 11" page, one-sided, typewritten and double-spaced. Include name, address in the upper left-hand corner of the page.
- A Grade Point Average (GPA) at a 2.5/4.0 level or higher.
Applications will be judged by a panel appointed by the Board of Directors of the Buffalo Sabres Alumni Association, whose decisions will be final in all respects. In the event of a tie, the applications will be re-judged based on the criteria outlined above in a tie-breaking competition.
- RECIPIENT NOTIFICATION / CLAIMING SCHOLARSHIPS:
Recipients will be notified on or about August 29th, and must sign and return a Scholarship Acknowledgment Form and a Publicity Release including an assignment of rights to the names and essays submitted. Awarding of the scholarship is subject to recipient submitting verification of enrollment in an Accredited Institution for the next school year. In the event a recipient does not graduate from high school, drops out of high school or does not enroll an Accredited Institution for study during the current school year, the prize will be forfeited and, where practicable, awarded to in an alternate recipient.
- SCHOLARSHIPS:
(Scholarships are payable in the currency of the country where the applicant attended high school) The scholarships are per annum as long as the applicant remains a full-time undergraduate student at the same college or university and maintains a G.P.A. of 2.5. Failure to continue to meet these requirements will result in an automatic forfeiture of future annual scholarship payments. All scholarships will be awarded about September 1st, in the form of a check payable jointly to the recipient and the institution the recipient is enrolled in. The check must be endorsed by both parties.
- ADDITIONAL TERMS:
Taxes on awards are the sole responsibility of the recipients. By participating, entrants agree: a) to the Official Rules and decisions of Buffalo Sabres Alumni Association which shall be final in all respects; b) (where legal) to the use of their names and/or likenesses for advertising, promotional and publicity purposes without written consent or compensation; and c) to release, discharge and hold harmless the Buffalo Sabres Alumni Association - its Board of Directors, officers and members, sponsors, and the Niagara Frontier Hockey LLP, from damages or claims arising our of their participation in this contest.
All rights, title and interest, including copyrights of essays submitted, belong to Buffalo Sabres Alumni Association. Buffalo Sabres Alumni Association reserves the right to edit, adjust, modify, condense, publish and/or excerpt essays.
- SCHOLARSHIP RESTRICTIONS:
No substitutions or transfers permitted. Limit one scholarship per household. Scholarships are to be used to cover institution costs and fees. In the event institution costs and fees are less than the scholarship amount, the balance of the scholarship may be utilized for other education costs such as course materials, books and/or on-campus housing. Sponsor reserves the right to interpret these rules and to make decisions concerning the award, acceptance and use of scholarships in situations not covered by these rules.
